Trusted IT Asset Disposal for UK Organisations
Why Secure IT Asset Disposal Matters
When outdated IT equipment sits in storage or is disposed of incorrectly, it can quickly become a serious risk to your organisation. Hard drives and devices often still contain sensitive data, and improper disposal can lead to data breaches and reputational damage.
With a secure IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) process in place, you can eliminate these risks, ensure compliance with UK regulations, and recover value from equipment that would otherwise go to waste.
-
Data Risk: Deleted files can still be recovered from many devices. At SecondLife, we protect your organisation with certified data erasure or physical destruction, logging every asset processed and issuing a Certificate of Destruction so you have clear proof your data has been securely removed.
-
Legal & Environmental: Disposing of IT equipment incorrectly can expose businesses to regulatory and environmental risks. We ensure all assets are handled in line with WEEE regulations, providing the appropriate documentation so your organisation can demonstrate full compliance.
-
Auditability: Many organisations need clear records for internal audits and compliance teams. Our ITAD service provides fully documented asset tracking and secure records of every device processed, giving you a complete audit trail from collection through to final disposal.

What Our Customers Say
We are a small Private School and spent a lot of time prior to this storing old devices that we couldn't wipe, sell or recycle. SecondLife had an invaluable team that eased our concerns straight away when we were struggling to find suitable companies that would take our devices for recycling. They send a receipt when they've received the devices and another to confirm that the data has been destroyed. It was a beneficial process and a company that we would use again.
I have been looking to dispose of quite a bit of IT kit that had been gathering dust and taking up space in the office for a few years. Most wanted silly money to come and collect, etc. SecondLife even gave us some money back for collecting IT. Lovely company - lovely people and highly recommend.
SecondLife were brilliant in helping us dispose of our obsolete IT equipment, but at the same time being able to bring it back to life to sell or give to worthwhile causes. The service was brilliant from my initial email until the disposal of it. The gentleman who collected was very informative and passionate about their cause.
Used for the first time as they are a local company. Prompt pickup with all paperwork sent quickly, including waste transfer and certificate of data destruction. As an added bonus, we even received some money back for the equipment we recycled!! Will definitely be using again.

FAQs
What is the WEEE Directive?
The WEEE Directive is an EU-wide law that sets out how electrical and electronic equipment must be handled once it becomes waste. The aim is to reduce landfill and encourage reuse, recovery, and recycling of materials.
How do you ensure assets are ethically disposed of?
We separate assets for reuse, refurbishment, or material recovery and only send non-reusable materials to authorised recycling facilities that process WEEE responsibly.
Every shipment is tracked and recorded (chain of custody), and we provide full documentation - including Waste Transfer Notes and final disposal reports - so you can demonstrate ethical handling and compliance.
Can’t I just simply delete data from old devices?
Simply deleting files or “emptying the recycle bin” is not sufficient, as deleted data can often be recovered. Safe disposal requires verified data erasure or physical destruction to make data unrecoverable, following recognised guidance.
For organisations, this is an important part of meeting GDPR and UK data-protection expectations.
What accreditations do you hold?
We maintain industry-recognised accreditations to demonstrate our security and environmental standards, including:
- ISO 9001 (quality management)
- ISO 14001 (environmental management)
- Environmental Agency Registered Waste Carrier
- Cyber Essentials
These certifications mean our processes are independently audited and help you meet procurement and audit requirements.
What areas do you collect IT equipment from?
We provide secure collections across the whole of the UK. For large projects (for example, data-centre decommissions), we’ll plan logistics and timings with your team.
Will you collect IT equipment that is no longer working?
Yes, we accept non-working and end-of-life equipment. Non-functional devices are handled the same way as working equipment. You’ll still receive the same paperwork and certificates to support your compliance and audit trails.
What documentation will we receive, and is it sufficient for a GDPR audit?
You'll receive a full asset report covering every device collected, including serial numbers and confirmed disposal method. Where data erasure has been carried out, you'll receive a data destruction certificate confirming the standard used. Where physical destruction has taken place, this is similarly documented.
The documentation we provide is designed to satisfy ICO requirements and demonstrate due diligence in the event of an audit or regulatory enquiry. If you have specific documentation requirements, let us know in advance, and we'll make sure everything is in order.
What happens to devices that can't be reused?
Devices that are too old, damaged, or otherwise unsuitable for reuse are processed for responsible recycling in line with WEEE regulations. Any data-bearing components are physically destroyed before the device is broken down for materials recovery. Nothing goes to landfill, and you'll receive documentation confirming how each asset was handled. Where physical destruction has taken place, we provide certificates as part of your end-of-process report.
