Donate Laptops for Children: Secondlife’s Digital Access Programme
We donate 10-20% of reusable devices to provide new opportunities for disadvantaged children in Gloucestershire.
Turning Unused Tech Into Opportunity
Across Gloucestershire, too many children are still trying to learn without reliable access to a laptop or PC at home. Gloucestershire County Council says that nationally, 14% of young people aged 8-25 lack access to suitable IT devices for learning, and estimates that around 25,000 young people in Gloucestershire are adversely affected by educational outcomes linked to this lack of digital access.
At SecondLife, our Digital Access Programme helps bridge that gap by collecting business devices, professionally refurbishing them, and putting them back into the hands of children who need them most.
This program reflects what we’re all about - recycle, refurbish, reuse - giving quality technology a second life, cutting down on e-waste, and making sure every device delivers as much value as possible!
Collect, Refurbish, Donate: Our Simple & Safe Process
Collect
We make it easy for businesses and organisations to pass on suitable laptops and PCs. Devices are collected directly by our team, helping good-quality technology quickly start its next chapter.
Secure Data Wipe
Before anything is reused, every device is professionally wiped using industry-standard data wiping methods. We also verify the process to help ensure all previous data is fully removed and the device is safe for its next user.
Refurbish & Test
Each device is then refurbished, with any necessary hardware repairs completed before it is tested thoroughly. We install the operating system and check performance, so it is ready for safe everyday use.
Donate
Once the devices are prepared, we work with third-party charities and organisations to distribute the technology to those most in need.

Making Sure Your Donation Reaches Those Who Count
We work closely with trusted partners to ensure every donated device reaches those who genuinely need it most. Laptops and computers are typically provided to children and young people who have been referred through schools, registered charities, or social services, helping us prioritise those facing the greatest barriers to digital access. This referral-based approach ensures fairness and real impact within the local community.
Donate, Partner, or Sponsor - Help Us Bridge the Gap
Businesses and partner organisations can play a vital role in helping us get more devices into the hands of children who need them most. Whether you donate surplus IT equipment, partner with us on a project, or sponsor the programme, your support creates real social impact while giving quality technology a second life. It’s a simple way to:
Support local communities
Strengthen your sustainability goals
Be recognised for contributing to a more responsible IT lifecycle
Donate a Device to help close the digital divide and make a lasting difference.
Every Device Is Wiped & Refurbished
Every device is handled with care from start to finish. Before it’s passed on, each laptop or computer is securely wiped, with audit trails and destruction certificates available where required. This helps donors feel confident that previous data has been properly removed. We also operate within WEEE repair/refurbishment requirements, helping to ensure devices are processed responsibly and legally.

FAQs
Devices are provided to children and young people who have been referred through trusted partners such as schools, registered charities, and social services. This ensures support is directed to those who need it most and helps us reach households experiencing digital exclusion.
We accept laptops and PCs that are in good working order or in need of refurbishment. Devices do not need to be factory fresh, but they should be suitable for repair and reuse.
Our team securely assesses each collection to confirm whether it can be refurbished and reused responsibly.
Once a device has been donated, it is securely wiped, refurbished, and tested before being allocated. The timeline can vary depending on condition and demand, but we aim to turn devices around as efficiently as possible so they can be put to use without unnecessary delay.
Yes. We regularly work with organisations donating multiple devices at once, from small office upgrades through to full IT refreshes. We can arrange collection, manage secure data wiping at scale, and ensure all devices are processed efficiently and responsibly.
